Creatine for Brain Health and ADHD: What the New Research Says

Creatine isn’t just for gym bros — it might be a brain health powerhouse, especially for those with ADHD.

The Science

New research highlights creatine's potential cognitive benefits:

  • A 2022 review in Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews concluded that creatine supplementation can enhance short-term memory and mental fatigue resistance (Avgerinos et al., 2022).

  • Another study published in Psychopharmacology found that creatine boosted working memory and processing speed in healthy adults under stress (Rae et al., 2003).

ADHD and Brain Energy

ADHD brains burn through energy faster — especially in the prefrontal cortex, which governs executive function. A 2021 study in Translational Psychiatry found that individuals with ADHD had altered mitochondrial activity and brain energy metabolism.

Creatine helps replenish the brain’s ATP stores, which could support focus, reduce mental fatigue, and enhance motivation by influencing dopamine activity.

Should You Supplement?

Creatine monohydrate is safe, affordable, and well-studied. It’s one of the most researched supplements globally with a strong safety profile — even in children. While we don’t currently offer it, it’s something we’re actively exploring options.
